Be the writer-use the notebook!
I’m realizing that not everything I write is written to be published. Many times, I’ll write down a thought, and later return to it and create a story. But, there are those thoughts that are just thoughts, my thoughts.
I’ve been reading “A Writer’s Notebook: Unlocking the Writer Within You,” by Ralph Fletcher. I believe it’s for children, but it’s been very helpful to me. Along with realizing that not everything I write will be published, or is worth being published. I’m seeing the importance of keeping a writer’s notebook, which Mr. Fletcher stresses in this little book.
So many times, I have a thought and I don’t have paper, or even a napkin to write on! I think, “Oh well,” and let those moments get away from me. Or, I have every intention to recall the incident later, but I just can’t recapture the moment.
My husband and I went to Borders last night and I bought a multi-colored, striped spiral notebook that fits perfectly in my purse. I have now purposed to carry the little thing with me until it falls apart!
In his book, Mr. Fletcher talks of how writers are like everyone else; they have thoughts and feelings about things, except “writers react, and need a place to record those reactions.” Writers have a need to record things they “notice and don’t want to forget.” I AM A WRITER!
If I am a writer, I need to write. If I am a writer, I should write. If I am a writer, I will use my notebook. I AM A WRITER!
If you are a writer-use the notebook!
